This experiment demonstrates the principle of conservation of momentum by analyzing the force generated when a high-speed water jet strikes a target surface. Water is pumped through a nozzle and directed onto either a flat plate or a hemispherical surface . The resulting reaction force is measured using a precision scale mounted below the target. Simultaneously, the mass flow rate is determined using a secondary scale and reservoir.
This setup helps students understand how momentum transfer in fluid jets relates to force generation, and reinforces core fluid mechanics concepts in a hands-on environment.
