Our research lab is proud to participate in the IDEaS Marketplace 2025, showcasing our advanced materials research in support of Canada's defence innovation ecosystem.
We are presenting our work on specialized Cr₃C₂-NiCr coatings, developed and deposited using the cold spray process, aimed at significantly enhancing the erosion resistance of rotor blades used in aerospace and defence applications.
This project has been carried out in collaboration with the Department of National Defence (DND) and Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) as part of the IDEaS program. Our coatings are engineered to withstand harsh operating environments, helping to extend component lifespan and improve mission readiness. The IDEaS Marketplace video is now posted! Watch it here:

Our lab is deeply committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in engineering and materials science. One of the ways we actively contribute to this mission is through our involvement in WiTs – Women in Thermal Spray, a global community dedicated to connecting, celebrating, and empowering women working in the thermal spray field.
WiTs brings together an inspiring network of scientists, engineers, and industry professionals from around the world who are driving innovation and shaping the future of surface engineering. Through mentorship, outreach, and collaboration, WiTs is helping to build a more inclusive and representative thermal spray community.
We’re proud to be part of this movement and to spotlight the many achievements of women in our field.
