First Independent Lesson
I selected One by Kathryn Otashi as my first artifact because I used it as a read-aloud for the first lesson I taught in my class. One is a quick story about standing up to bullies and contains a number of bigger vocabulary words that I was able to highlight throughout the reading.

Lesson in Sentence Type Unit
After returning from the winter break, I started teaching my students a unit on sentence types to help them improve their writing. I started with a lesson on clauses and phrases, and then moved on to simple and compound sentences. This slide is from my lesson on simple sentences, where I introduced “Confused Timmy,” who became a popular class character.

First Assessment
As an assessment at the end of my sentence type unit, I tasked my students with creating a 2-3 page comic book that contains at least 4 compound sentences per page. The project is on track to be completed by the end of March and I will link some standout projects.
