This experiment introduces students to three temperature measurement devices: glass thermometers, thermocouples (K-type), and resistive temperature detectors (RTDs). They use these instruments to monitor water temperature during heating, comparing the accuracy and response times of each sensor type.
In the second phase, students heat three unknown alloy samples while recording temperature-time curves. By identifying the liquidus and solidus temperatures from these cooling curves, they determine the composition of each alloy sample, applying phase diagram principles to real materials analysis.
