Yi Hui Tee, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Tee earned her bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Science Malaysia in 2015, followed by an M.S. (2018) and Ph.D. (2021) in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Minnesota. Her doctoral research delivered one of the first experimental quantifications of finite-size sphere rotation together with three-component translational motion in a turbulent boundary layer, advancing the understanding of particle–turbulence and particle–wall interactions.

Following her Ph.D., she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) from 2021 to 2025. During her time at NTNU, she was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Union for her research on plastic transport in the ocean.

Research Interests: Particle-laden flow, experimental fluid mechanics, multiphase flow, turbulence, environmental flow, aerodynamics

Interests beyond research: Gardening, painting, photography

We welcome motivated and enthusiastic students who wish to pursue graduate studies, an undergraduate thesis (MCG 4100/ MCG 4220), internship (GNG 4930) or part-time summer research projects, to join us in conducting exciting experiments in research environment. Prospective students are encouraged to email their CV, an unofficial transcript, and a brief description of their research interests to yihui.tee@uottawa.ca (To avoid emails being blocked or marked as spam, it is advisable to use an official university‑affiliated email address when contacting us. In the subject line, please include “TEE Lab [XX] position”, where XX stands for UG, MASc, MEng, PhD, or PostDoc).

For graduate admission, please ensure that you are familiar with the requirements at uOttawa before contacting us; details regarding application, tuition and ancillary fees can be found here. Admission scholarship is available for outstanding students. International Doctoral Scholarship is available to partially support international tuition fee. We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion at the University of Ottawa.
