Research and Leadership Projects

Professional Inquiry

For my professional inquiry project, I wanted to focus on the collaborative dynamics in my grade 4/5 class. My belief that learning is an inherently social exercise sparked my interest in this topic and made me want to do a deep dive on how this shows itself in a real classroom. My goal was to observe how different types of group work affects students productivity and motivation to learn. I defined three types of tasks to observe; individual tasks, tasks with preferred peers, and tasks with non-preferred peers. My findings and observations can be found linked below

Teacher Leadership Project

For my teaching leadership project, I chose to help coach the junior girls floorball team at my practicum school St. Luke Ottawa. My experience coaching these girls was an incredible full-circle moment for me. As I was growing up, sports were an integral part of my school experience. In both elementary and high school, I participated in as many sports teams as I could. As I begin my career in education, being able to assume a leadership role and provide the same opportunity I was given to the next generation of student-athletes was a fulfilling experience. This was an important reminder for me that the impact a teacher can have extend far beyond just the classroom.
