FLYLEAF READINGS

I use FlyLeaf in my grade 1 class to teach reading. It’s progression from CVC words, CVCC words to more advanced reading like recognizing onomatopoeias, contractions, and compound words is perfectly paced. Their lessons include comprehensive reading, reviews of high frequency words and activities to go with each book. I would recommend using FlyLeaf to teach a grade 1 or 2 class. It’s also effective one on one for students who need extra help.

MATH UP

Math Up is an amazing tool created by Marian Small to help teachers of any grade 1 through 8. Math Up was created with the Ontario curriculum in mind and has multiple paths one can follow to cover all the curriculum, you can even create your own custom path. It comes with all the lesson planning you’ll need, activities, videos and even tutorials for teachers on how best to teach a specific lesson.

TVO

TVO Kids is a great website that has materials for any subject for all grades from kindergarten to grade 12. I primarily use this resource for science lessons in my grade 1 class. After using the lessons from TVO I can say that the activities, lessons, videos and everything else put into this program fits the respective grade level very well. However, my favourite part of this website is its flexibility. If the lesson doesn’t work for your students it is very easy to move around the lessons or adjust them to the needs of your classroom.

Saddleback Kids

Saddleback kids is a YouTube channel that I use to help teach students religion. I mainly use their channel to find animations of Bible stories for students to watch. Many stories from the Bible can be rather explicit so finding material to help teach younger students can be difficult. What I love most is that they don’t skip over any part of a story but they find a way to tell the entire story in a way that students will understand and the same message gets across.

Danny Go!

Danny Go is a Youtube channel I use for body breaks. Students, especially in grade 1, need lots of body breaks. Danny Go has a wide range of videos so no matter what you are teaching that day there are definitely videos to match the lesson. There are also videos that don’t necessarily match any lessons but are good to use as rewards for students as well. The movements in Danny Go videos are also simple and easy to follow along so all students can participate.
