A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Mason and I am a second year student in the Teacher Education program at the University of Ottawa. I am enrolled in the Intermediate-Senior division, with teachable subjects in Mathematics and Physics.

Previously, I studied Statistics at Carleton University from 2020-2024. My passion for math began in high school where I was a strong math student and truly loved the class. I was also passionate about physics, which inspired me to take many physics elective courses at Carleton. The fact that everything in the world involves physics is very intriguing to me.

In my free time, I like to play and watch many sports. In the summer, I play baseball and softball, while in the winter I am playing hockey and curling. When I am not playing a sport, I am probably at home watching one. I like to spend time with friends and family, as well as play with my dog.

I look forward to being a teacher and bringing my passion for math and physics to the future generation.

Passion for Math and Teaching

Ever since grade 9, I have been passionate about Mathematics. I always received good grades and good feedback, encouraging me to enjoy it. In my grade 12 year, I took all three math courses (advanced functions, data management, calculus and vectors). I received solid grades in all the courses, allowing me to get into a mathematics program at Carleton, with a focus in Statistics. It wasn’t until after second year of university when I knew my passion wasn’t as much learning new Statistics material, but it was teaching material I already knew. This passion came about through peer tutoring, and tutoring of high school students. I really enjoy taking my love of math, and sharing it with others with a goal of having them enjoy what they’re doing. One of my proudest pieces of work in undergrad was my Honours Project. As seen in my description, I love hockey and math. I put these together and did a research project using statistical analysis on goaltenders in hockey to determine if there is a correlation between their Statistics and making the playoffs. Essentially, the goal was to see how important having a good goalie was. These are the kinds of things that Mathematics allows you to do, take your passion and extend it into Math!
