Biography

Dr. D. Lance Ferris is a Full Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from McMaster University, followed by a Master of Applied Science and a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo. Before joining the University of Ottawa, Dr. Ferris held academic positions at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business at Singapore Management University, the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University, and the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.

Dr. Ferris' research focuses on motivation in the workplace, including why employees engage in both good behaviours (e.g., helping others) and bad behaviours (e.g., being uncivil or abusive). His work has been published in a variety of journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. He has previously served as an Associate Editor at Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and is currently on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

In his spare time, Dr. Ferris enjoys writing website biographies about himself, wherein he refers to himself in the third person, and uses words like “wherein”.
