Bio:

Catherine pursued a BSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa before switching to Translational and Molecular Medicine as she developed a passion for medical research. This led her to pursuing graduate studies in the Wang and Chan Labs to explore her interest in neural stem cell systems and how they can be disrupted.

Outside of the lab, she is a big nature lover who enjoys exploring the various hiking trails of Ottawa. She is also a big music buff and loves learning new songs on the guitar.

Research Project:

Catherine’s project investigates the underlying mechanisms for abnormal neuronal differentiation resulting from prenatal methylmercury exposure. Specifically, her focus is on the relationship between the Glyoxalase 1 regulatory enzyme and the transcription factor CREB in the human brain using two-dimensional monolayer and three-dimensional cortical organoid models.
